Oregon City School District Celebrates Successful Completion of 2018 Bond Projects

The Oregon City School District (OCSD) is proud to announce the successful completion of all projects funded by the 2018 Capital Construction Bond. The district has completed every project on time and on budget, marking a significant achievement for the community and its students.

The $158 million bond, passed by voters in 2018, focused on enhancing student safety, reducing overcrowding, and upgrading outdated school facilities. These improvements have transformed learning environments across the district, ensuring students, families, and staff benefit from safe, modern, and vibrant educational spaces.

Major accomplishments include:

Rebuilding Gardiner Middle School: A brand-new, 150,000-square-foot facility, designed to house 1,000 students, with state-of-the-art learning environments and outdoor education spaces.

Renovating Tumwata Middle School: Extensive upgrades including a new heating and cooling system, improved security features, and updated academic and community spaces.

District-wide security upgrades: Over 1,500 new door locks, secure vestibules at all schools, and expanded security camera systems, making schools safer for over 7,200 students.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Enhancements: Upgraded CTE spaces in middle and high schools to support hands-on learning and future career development.

Despite the challenges of a global pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and natural disasters, OCSD successfully delivered on all its bond commitments. A full report detailing the bond projects and their outcomes can be viewed online at www.ocschoolbond.org/2018-bond-summary-report.

The district will continue its commitment to updating educational facilities as it looks toward future projects, including a proposed bond measure on the November 2024 ballot aimed at updating Oregon City’s aging elementary schools.
